Review: Sambazon Acai (Mango Uprising)
March 28th, 2009
Sambazon is a berry juice for energy. In Brazil, we use to blend acai pulp with bananas to start the day. So the Mango Uprising mixture (with banana) is, in my opinion, one of the best acai juices because of that acai + bananas combination. Besides these two dominant fruits, the drink is “cut” with apple and grape juices (you have to cut pure acai pulp if you want a drinkable juice) and contains a little mango and soy lecithin. If you are looking for an energy drink, this might be the one. The acai is rich in antioxidants, iron, vitamins, protein, fibers, and minerals (calcium and potassium). The bananas are rich in potassium, serotonin and natural sugars. The mangoes are rich in carotenoids, vitamins and fiber. Although the fruits are high in sugars and acai is known to be high in calories, Sambazon has only about 170 calories per serving. All ingredients are organic and made from concentrate.
This drink is perfect for those looking for a healthy, low calorie, good tasting, energetic drink with an exotic flavor — a great alternative to artificial energy drinks. If you want more nutrition in your berry drink, I’d suggest their SuperGreens Revolution formula, which contains green superfoods. The down side? These drinks are rather expensive at $3.99 per bottle.
Manufacturer’s Description
This blend of Organic Açaí, banana, mango, apple and grape juice has more antioxidants than a half-pound of blueberries and essential omegas 6 & 9. They are the perfect way to start your day or as a meal replacement anytime.
Key Fruits & Berries
Acai, banana, mango, grape, apple
Taste
The taste is sweet, but not sugary, the banana gaves the acai that missing sweetness because pure acai tastes pretty awful, to tell the truth. For me, being a Brazilian, Sambazon reminds of morning on the beach. Sambazon has several acai + fruit combinations and its original pure acai juice.

Pros
The product gives you the real taste of acai + banana. The organic compounds from natural concentrated fruit juices are healthy and provide natural energy.
Cons
If you are looking for just acai taste you can find cheaper products. This product is not quite as “smooth” as they claim. It’s more like acai juice than a smoothie. It’s among the more expensive berry drinks.

This juice is absolutely awful! I tried it and after the first sip, couldn’t get through anymore……. I really wanted to like it since acai is so good for you and everything. I tried the original blend organic juice. Anyway, just wanted to give my opinion. Thanks!

Most stores here in Ny sell it for $2.99 so its not to expensive. I drink it as part of a light lunch with some yogurt and granola when im too busy at work to have a real lunch, or sometimes in the morning if I run out of my usual green drink powder. tatse great, fills you up and great nutrition.

I like the taste, a bit different so probably someone will like it and some won’t but fortunately costco sells the big bottle for $5 and everyone else sells for 7.99 so I think I’ll be buying it all the time. Probably a bit too sweet and a bit more fats than I would have liked but that’ fine as to me it tastes good as long as I get the benefits of Acai.
