Review: Maqui SuperBerry

The Maqui Superberry is one more those amazing berries that comes from South America. Maqui berries are believed to have more antioxidants than Acai, which is quite amazing, and more anthocyanins and polyphenols than red wine. This product is a concentrated drink, which you can dilute with water or a mild juice.

This concentrated drink has a few more berries added, like organic blackberries, which are well known antioxidants, elderberries, which are awesome for inflammation. The raspberries are rich in Vitamin C and minerals which increases energy.

This drink is powerful tasting and quite rich; it’s sweetened with agave nectar. You can take a tablespoon straight or dilute it in a few ounces of water. For comparison purposes, we’ve used 8oz of water for dilution, which makes it comparable in price to the dry, powder mixes — which are generally cheaper (and more nutritious) than the ready-to-drink liquids.

Manufacturer’s Description

Taste

The taste is not sugary, but it is sweet, and quite tart. The berry flavors are quite strong, unless you dilute the “suggested serving” of a tablespoon into 8 ounces of water, which will make the drink a bit weak tasting. Better to mix in half that much water. If you take it pure, the texture is thick, like a Smoothie.

Pros

Maqui Superberry is a great drink with natural ingredients and very low in calories. It has a super-high concentration of antioxidants and the price is right.

Cons

The price seems high until you compare it on a serving-size basis. You can find among the ingredients potassium sorbate which could be replaced for any another, healthier product. I also don’t like the company web site, product label and related materials, as they have a slightly scammy feel to them.

Review: Bossa Nova SuperFruit

I like these types of mixtures, offering a key berry (in this case Acai) along with one other fruit. The result is a great-tasting, and very simple and pure formula with no fillers and no artificial sweeteners (it’s sweetened with agave nectar). These juices are somehow more fresh tasting than other acai mixtures. The combinations are well chosen for flavor and antioxidants and the price is reasonable.

Manufacturer’s Description

Acai is hailed as a top superfruit for its antioxidant power. Bossa Nova’s acai is sustainably wildharvested from the Amazon and specially processed to retain the best of the berry’s nutritional promise.

Key Fruits & Berries

Acai
Passion Fruit, mango, blueberry, or raspberry

Taste

A strong taste of both acai and the second fruit in fairly equal proportions. This juice has a nice, strong taste and is slightly sweet and slightly fruity. The acai-only juice is slightly bitter.

Acai + Raspberry

Review: Fruits of the Earth

If you’re looking for a red drink that has high levels of fruit and berry antioxidants, minerals, and vitamins, then this is a product you should be looking at. It’s one of the top red drink superfood products on the market, with a huge variety of fruits and some veggies and other grasses. Like the label says, this product is 80% fruits and 20% superfoods (veggies and grasses) — that’s 100% functional ingredients. The formulator, Jameth Sheridan, knows how to get the most nutrition for the best price and has put together a rich formula for daily use. The taste is very fruity and naturally sweet and tart. At $4.87 per dry ounce and $1.31 per 8oz liquid serving, this is one of my top choices.

Manufacturer’s Description

Fruits of The Earth™ is a high antioxidant, potent combination of natures most nutritive fruits from around the world. Dried at low temperatures to preserve heat sensitive elements. 80% of the formula is fruit. Fruits are somewhat acid forming, so 20% of the formula is intentionally alkaline forming vegetables (beet juice, wheat grass and barley grass, Nopal Cactus). The ultra-finely ground and highly bioavailable whole leaf grasses provide a huge source of nutrition including essential alkalinity and better blood sugar balance.* Actual Food™ Chromium is also added to support healthy metabolism and blood sugar levels.* Unlike other “Food Type” forms of nutrients, this Chromium is 100% organically bound. It is not merely in the “form” of food, it is Food!

Taste

Fruity with natural sweetness and tartness. As with all dry mixes, the flavor depends on how you mix it. The more liquid you use, the less flavor it will have. One tablespoon mixed with 8oz of water produces a fairly weak, but tasty drink. I prefer it with less water, or with a mild juice, such as apple or grape.

Pros

Excellent formulation for potent red superfoods. No fillers, flavorings, or sweeteners. Good price and excellent laboratory facilities.

Cons

None.
